Sustainability & Smart Mobility – Part 2
Driving Measurable Impact with Our Mobility Ecosystem Platform
As governments, businesses, and communities accelerate their climate efforts, the real challenge isn’t just pledging action, it’s proving impact.
In Part 1 of this series, we explored how smart mobility paves the way to net zero. Now, in Part 2, we’ll show how our Platform for Ecosystem-based Mobility turns lofty sustainability goals into measurable outcomes, trip by trip.
A Platform Built for Real-World Climate Action
At Digital Ties, we posed a simple yet ambitious question: “What if every single journey could make the world more sustainable?”.
Our answer lies in a unified, AI-powered platform that brings EV charging, smart parking, micromobility, and public transport under one digital roof.
By weaving these services together, we don’t simply streamline users’ experience, we shift behaviours at scale, nudging people away from single-occupancy petrol cars toward cleaner, more efficient travel modes.
Measurable Benefits: CO₂, Time, and Behaviour
We designed our digital ecosystem platform with pragmatic impact metrics from the outset.
Every feature of our ecosystem is designed with clear impact metrics. For instance, our Park–Charge–Connect capability encourages drivers to park and top up their EV before completing their journey by bike, scooter, bus or train. If just 1% of UK car trips (around 300 million journeys annually) adopt this pattern, we’ll slash roughly 360,000 tonnes of CO₂ by Year 3 - equivalent to taking 135,000 petrol cars off the road.
Meanwhile, real-time charger availability and integrated trip planning build confidence in EVs. A modest 1% increase in UK EV adoption (about 400,000 new electric vehicles) translates to another 600,000 tonnes of avoided emissions each year - comparable to offsetting emmisions of 125,000 homes.
Urban drivers also benefit from dynamic parking navigation that cuts search time in half. If 10% of motorists save just five minutes per parking hunt, the country collectively reclaims 80 million minutes and spares 670,000 litres of fuel - preventing 1,500 tonnes of CO₂ emissions, or planting 60,000 trees.
On the digital front, consolidating four or five separate mobility apps into one platform curbs cloud-energy consumption, saving an additional 100 tonnes of CO₂ per year.
Altogether, our ecosystem is poised to prevent nearly 960,000 tonnes of carbon annually - akin to removing 450,000 petrol cars or growing 16 million tree seedlings for a decade.
The Bigger Picture: From Congestion to Collective Impact
Cities drive economic growth, but they’re often choked by their own success. Idle traffic contributes up to 10% of urban CO₂ emissions, and UK congestion is estimated to cost a staggering £6.9 billion each year in wasted fuel, productivity, and time. Beyond economics, poor air quality claims over 40,000 premature lives in the UK annually and exacerbates asthma, heart disease, and stress.
Our platform confronts these challenges head-on. Intelligent routing slashes idle time, smart parking prevents endless circling, and multimodal options steer commuters toward bikes, buses, and trains.
By tackling congestion, we aren’t just easing commutes, we’re safeguarding public health, reducing emissions, and bolstering urban resilience.
Social Return on Investment (SROI)
Technology’s true value shines when it generates broad social benefits. We’ve modelled a conservatively estimated SROI of £123 per active user per year, broken down as follows:
– £25 from improved public health, driven by cleaner air, less noise, and more active travel
– £20 in time savings, thanks to smarter routing and parking features
– £30 from modal shifts away from private cars, yielding lower congestion and healthier lifestyles
– £48 in avoided CO₂ costs, based on a £100/tonne shadow carbon price
That’s £123 of quantifiable social value created for each active user every year - through cleaner air, saved time, lower emissions, and better access to sustainable transport options.
By Year 3, supporting over 10 million users, our platform will deliver more than £1.27 billion in annual social value, evidence that sustainable mobility pays dividends beyond the balance sheet.
This is climate tech with compound benefits - a true flywheel of impact.
Tackling congestion and emissions is more than a mobility issue - it’s a public health, economic, and climate imperative. Our platform turns everyday journeys into opportunities for sustainable impact, at scale.
Supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals
Our Mobility Ecosystem Platform is intentionally designed to align with and accelerate progress toward six key UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These goals provide a universal framework for building a fairer, more sustainable, and more resilient world.
SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation & Infrastructure - We modernise transport infrastructure by integrating EV charging, parking, and micromobility into adaptive digital systems.
SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities & Communities - We foster sustainable cities through reduced pollution, increased multimodal mobility and optimized traffic flows.
SDG 13 – Climate Action - We drive climate action by cutting nearly a million tonnes of CO₂ each year.
SDG 3 – Good Health & Wellbeing - We’re advancing good health and wellbeing via cleaner air, reduced noise pollution, and less road stress.
SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption & Production - By streamlining apps and consolidating mobility services we champion responsible consumption and reduce app sprawl.
SDG 7 – Affordable & Clean Energy - By promoting accessible EV charging we support affordable, clean energy.
At Digital Ties, we see smart mobility as both a challenge and a lever for delivering global sustainability impact.
A Platform That Scales with Equity
Sustainability must be inclusive, and digital mobility must not deepen existing inequalities.
That’s why at Digital Ties, equity is built into the core of our platform’s design and deployment strategy.
We're creating a modular solution that works for both major metros and lower-income cities, ensuring next-gen mobility isn’t just for the wealthiest urban centres. By partnering with regional and smaller authorities, we’ll make innovation more accessible to those often left behind.
Affordability is central. We’re collaborating with public and private partners to offer low-cost travel options and incentives, so low-income users can access the same benefits as everyone else, from smart parking and EV charging to shared transport and micromobility.
We’re also committed to digital inclusivity. Our platform is being designed for simplicity, with multilingual support, intuitive UX, and compatibility with low-data devices.
But equity isn’t just about access - it’s about process and accountability. As we build, we’re asking critical questions:
Who benefits - and who might be left out?
How are we engaging vulnerable populations early and meaningfully?
What safeguards will ensure these communities see real, measurable value?
Are we avoiding unintended harms like digital exclusion or displacement?
Our community engagement model won’t be a checkbox - it will actively shape how we design, test, and scale. We’ll use culturally relevant outreach, partner with local organisations, and prioritise co-design with shift workers, disabled users, and other often-overlooked groups.
By embedding these principles from the start, Digital Ties aims to deliver a mobility platform that is not only smart and scalable, but fair, inclusive, and trusted by the communities it serves.
The Road Ahead
The transformation is real. By Year 3, our platform will be saving 960,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually, generating £1.27 billion in social returns, and empowering over 10 million users.
